Learning outcomes
Environmental geology as a scientific field that enables the identification and monitoring of hydrocarbon pollution and the assessment of environmental issues related to subsoil use. The concept of the geosystem. The importance of understanding the interaction of processes within the geosystem and its surrounding environments. Environmental risks. Geochemical transformation of the environment due to hydrocarbon pollution of land areas and water bodies. Fundamentals of the methodology for environmental-geological research. Current environmental protection legislation and industry-specific regulatory environmental protection documents. Areas of assessment for environmental risks that may potentially arise during the extraction of hydrocarbon raw materials, beginning with the drilling process. Unconventional sources of hydrocarbons. Environmental risks.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students must have a basic knowledge of physics, chemistry, ecology, and geological disciplines, including mineralogy, petrography, the fundamentals of geophysical research, and remote sensing methods.
Course content
he main focus is on understanding environmental issues during exploration, appraisal, and hydrocarbon production. The paper examines the geochemical transformation of the environment resulting from hydrocarbon contamination of land and water bodies, as well as the requirements of current environmental legislation and industry standards for oil and gas exploration and appraisal activities in Ukraine. Assessment methods and criteria
Semester Assessment: - presentation - (min - 36, max - 50 points) Final assessment in the form of a test: maximum score of 50 points, passing score of 36 points. Students’ academic performance is evaluated on a 100-point scale. The final grade consists of the sum of the points earned during the semester and the points earned on the exam. A student is not eligible to take the exam if they have earned fewer than 36 points during the semester. Students submit their presentations after completing the 0th semester; the final exam is administered during the exam period.
