Learning outcomes
Know: the stages of creating structural and material grid models; data sources for model construction and methods for transforming them; interpretive features of geophysical data in the context of oil and gas geology; techniques for constructing grid models; approximation methods for constructing facies and petrophysical models; methods for estimating resources based on grid models; methods for visualizing 3D data; elements and processes in oil and gas systems. Be able to: prepare data for analysis in interpretation systems (using Petrel and PetroMod software from SLB as examples); interpret seismic and logging data in conjunction with geological information (using Petrel software from SLB as an example); create three-dimensional grid-based models of hydrocarbon reservoirs (using Petrel software from SLB as an example); estimate hydrocarbon resources using the volumetric method based on grid models (using Petrel software from SLB as an example).

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of courses in the geology track, including basic knowledge
of structural geology, stratigraphy, and geophysics.
2. Possess basic skills in working with spreadsheets and
geographic information systems.
Course content
This course covers the fundamental and practical aspects of hydrocarbon reservoir modeling using the modern software packages PetroMod and Petrel (SLB). Students study the types and sources of raw geological, geophysical, and geochemical data, as well as methods for preparing and integrating this data to build consistent structural-geological and material models. In PetroMod, students learn the principles of thermal and kinetic modeling, analyze hydrocarbon generation and migration, and identify zones of potential hydrocarbon accumulation. In Petrel, students work on interpreting seismic and well data, constructing 3D structural and petrophysical grid models, and applying resource estimation methods. Particular attention is paid to practical work with real geodata sets and evaluating the reliability of the resulting models. The course provides a comprehensive understanding of the processes that shape oil and gas systems and equips students with the skills necessary for future professional work in the field of mineral exploration and appraisal.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures and practical sessions, as well as independent study by students.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is conducted using a modular-rating system and includes: the completion of two practical semester projects (in which students must demonstrate the quality of their acquired knowledge and solve assigned problems using the methods and tools specified by the instructor, as well as demonstrate the quality of their acquired knowledge and solve assigned problems without restrictions on the tools and techniques used to solve the problem). The final assessment takes the form of a written exam.
