Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know: - the rules of phonetic design of modern English (articulation of sounds and sound combinations; accentuation and intonation of different types of statements (dialogue, monologue)); - functional norms of use of general vocabulary and terminological lexical units; - the structure and rules of construction of oral and written discourse in situations of foreign language official and informal communication; - features of English as a holistic system. 2. Be able to: - produce prepared and unprepared statements that summarize or supplement the content of what is heard or seen; - reproduce the content and express one's own opinion about what is read or heard; - distinguish grammatical structures when reading or perceiving a text by ear and determine their communicative meaning; - freely operate with grammatical units and select them in oral and written speech; - use sociocultural knowledge in foreign language communication.
Course content
The discipline is designed to develop the ability to communicate effectively in a foreign language in a professional environment and apply knowledge in practical situations: discuss issues related to specialization in order to reach an understanding with the interlocutor; prepare public speeches on a large number of industry issues, using appropriate means of verbal communication and adequate forms of conducting discussions and debates; find new text, graphic, audio and video information contained in industry materials, using appropriate search methods and terminology; analyze English-language sources of information to obtain data necessary for performing professional tasks and making professional decisions; write professional texts and documents in English on a number of industry issues; translate English-language professional texts into the native language.
