Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) Know: major social work theories 2) Be able to: analyze the basic concepts of social work and the modern regulatory and legal framework, as well as apply and utilize theoretical knowledge in practical professional activities 3) Possess: professional communication skills, be able to plan and monitor the evaluation of performance in the area of social work.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of current issues in social work in the context of contemporary transformations and social challenges; to highlight the place and role of social work within the field of ‘Healthcare and Social Welfare’; to familiarise students with contemporary paradigms and concepts of social work in Ukraine and abroad; and to introduce students to current social work practices with various social groups. The discipline «Current Issues in Social Work» is included in the list of compulsory subjects and is taught in the first semester as part of the «Social Counselling and Leadership» educational and research programme for higher education students. The course is designed to help master’s students develop a professional understanding of current issues in social work, research areas within social work as a field of healthcare and social welfare, changes in regulatory and legislative documents concerning social work with various social groups in the current context, and to familiarise them with international experience in the theory and practice of social work

Lecture, seminar, independent study assignments, Zoom, and other means of remote communication
Assessment methods and criteria
Survey. Discussion. Completion of written assignments. Form of final assessment – pass/fail credit. Oral responses (presentation at seminars, participation in discussions, debates, and additional contributions): max 30 / min 11 points. Practical assignments (source analysis, work with scientific publications, demonstration of practical skills): max 30 / min 11 points. Independent study assignments (work with scientific sources, demonstration of practical skills): max 30 / min 11 points. Final test (MC): max 10 / min 7 points. The credit is awarded based on the student’s performance throughout the semester (maximum total for semester work – 100 points). A mandatory condition for receiving credit is the completion of theoretical material, practical tasks, independent work assignments, and the final test. The total number of points must be at least 60
