Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Before commencing this course, students should be familiar with the main stages and characteristics of the historical and cultural process, and the place of ethics in the philosophical sciences. 2. Be able to gather and interpret information regarding cultural phenomena and events, as well as cultural processes; identify current socio-cultural issues and justify the principles and approaches to resolving them. 3. Possess basic skills in scientific research and information management; critical analysis and forecasting regarding political, economic, cultural and artistic events and phenomena; and the use of professional foreign-language information sources.
Course content
The course ‘Professional and Corporate Ethics’ aims to develop informed specialists who are ethically competent and morally committed to carrying out their professional duties conscientiously, responsibly and with ethical consideration. It defines the scope of applied, professional and corporate ethics, their place within the structure of ethical knowledge, the characteristics of ethical regulation of professional practice, and the ethical dimensions of professionalism. The mission and structure of the ethical infrastructure as a tool for managing values in professional and corporate activities are clarified, as are the models and functions of ethics departments and ethical documents, in particular the code of ethics, ethical monitoring and ethical auditing as a means of controlling ethical activities. The foundations of corporate culture and the moral standards of an organisation’s activities are examined. The foundations of corporate social responsibility are defined. The specific features of the socio-normative manifestations of morality in a range of socially oriented professional practices are considered. In particular, the foundations of pedagogical ethics, its structure and subject area are defined, with attention given to university ethics, the value dynamics of university life in cultural and historical development, and the university’s mission in contemporary socio-cultural practice. The value-normative foundations of a scholar’s activity, the ethical dimensions of the relationship between ethics and technology, and the specific features of social responsibility in science are examined. The value foundations of translation and the norms and principles of translation ethics are highlighted.

Assessment methods and criteria
Evaluation is carried out throughout the semester in accordance with the types of work and forms of assessment described in section 7.1. A pass mark is awarded based on the student’s performance throughout the semester and does not require any additional assessment. Students who have achieved the minimum passing mark of 60 points receive a ‘pass’. Students who have not achieved the minimum passing mark of 60 points receive a ‘fail’. Students who have scored a total of less than 60 marks over the semester must, in order to pass the course, cover the material on the topics where they are behind by writing independent assignments, essays or, if necessary, a test.
