Learning outcomes
PRN1. Be able to apply modern mathematical methods to solve practical problems related to the research and design of biotechnological processes. Use knowledge of physics to analyze biotechnological processes. PRN2. Be able to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of substances of inorganic, organic and biological origin, using appropriate methods. PRN3. Be able to calculate the composition of nutrient media, determine the features of their preparation and sterilization, carry out quality control of raw materials and finished products based on knowledge of the physicochemical properties of organic and inorganic substances. PRN4.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of the courses "Cell Biology", "Inorganic and Organic Chemistry", "Analytical Chemistry". 2. Be able to independently apply the knowledge gained in high school in the subjects of the natural science block. 3. Possess basic skills in working with reagents, consumables and equipment used in the fields of biology and biotechnology.
Course content
Biotechnology is an integral science that emerged at the junction of biological, chemical and technical sciences. It is the only discipline that combines fundamental and applied science with production. The task of biotechnology is to use a complex of fundamental, applied sciences and technical means aimed at obtaining and using cells of microorganisms, animals and plants, as well as products of their vital activity: enzymes, amino acids, vitamins, antibiotics, etc. The interaction of biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, genetic engineering, microbiology, chemistry and chemical technology in the field of problematic issues of biotechnology leads to the creation of new biological agents, improving the control of biosynthesis, etc. Biotechnology is the discipline that today determines scientific and technological progress. The development of biotechnology is associated with the solution of global problems of humanity - the elimination of food shortages, energy, mineral resources, improving the state of health care and environmental quality.
