Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know:
legislative regulation in social work;
practical psychology in social work;
fundamentals of social interaction and social conflicts;
fundamentals of social work with at-risk groups.
Be able to:
use acquired theoretical knowledge in providing counselling assistance and apply it in practical work;
carry out emergency or crisis intervention;
develop counselling assistance projects for specific target groups that require such assistance;
evaluate the effectiveness of counselling assistance measures and make forecasts for the future.
Possess:
methods of individual and group counselling in social work;
techniques of active listening, empathic responding, clarification, paraphrasing, and summarizing;
skills in crisis counselling and primary psychological support;
skills in planning, organizing, and implementing counselling assistance for various target groups.
Course content
Aim – to prepare future social workers for the organization of counselling work aimed at providing psychological support, reducing tension and stress, and ensuring the basic needs of the recipient of a social service.
Annotation
The discipline is aimed at developing students’ systematic knowledge of the theoretical foundations, ethical principles, methods, and technologies of counselling assistance in social work. Its content covers the study of legislative regulation in social work, the specific features of social interaction, social conflicts, crisis states, and work with at-risk groups.
Within the discipline, the features of individual and group counselling, the organization of the counselling process, the stages of establishing contact with the client, identifying their needs and resources, defining the problem situation, planning assistance, and evaluating its effectiveness are considered. The discipline has a practice-oriented character.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, seminars, creative and reproductive tasks, independent work, preparation of reports and essays, completion of a test paper, and pass/fail assessment tasks.
Assessment methods and criteria
Completion of practical learning tasks and interim forms of assessment. The minimum number of points required for admission to the pass/fail assessment is 36 points; the maximum is 60 points. The number of points earned during the semester is announced in advance.
Final grade:0–59 points — fail / not passed, 60–100 points — pass.
The final grade is calculated as the sum of all points earned throughout the semester.
