Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate fluently on professional matters with specialists and non-specialists in the state and foreign languages, both orally and in writing, and use these languages to facilitate effective intercultural communication. PLO 9. Characterize dialectal and social varieties of French and English and describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 11. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles, techniques, and strategies for producing oral and written texts of various genres and styles in the state and foreign languages. PLO 12. Analyze linguistic units, identify their interactions, and characterize the linguistic phenomena and processes that shape them. PLO 14. Use French and English effectively in oral and written communication across different genres, styles, and registers (formal, informal, neutral) to address communicative tasks in everyday, social, academic, professional, and scientific contexts.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Knowledge: Demonstrate command of the phonetic realization of speech (stress, pausing, intonation) in different types of discourse (dialogue, monologue) appropriate to intercultural communication contexts; Understand the morphological structure of contemporary English; Apply functional and stylistic norms in the use of lexical units, including synonyms, idioms, and set expressions, in accordance with intercultural communicative situations. 2. Skills: Produce prepared and spontaneous monologic speech that summarizes and/or extends the content of what has been heard or seen, in line with genre and stylistic conventions; Reproduce and interpret the content of texts, express personal viewpoints, and support them with аргументи; Apply sociocultural knowledge and skills in foreign language communication; Recognize grammatical structures and phenomena in reading and listening and determine their communicative function.
Course content
The multi-semester course English (Communicative Level B2+) is designed to develop students’ communicative, linguistic, and sociocultural competences, while fostering a positive attitude toward mastering both the English language and the culture of the English-speaking world. It also aims to raise awareness of the role of a foreign language in the educational process and in society. The course provides knowledge of the culture, history, social realities, and traditions of English-speaking countries, and develops students’ ability to employ a range of learning strategies to meet academic needs (e.g., working with textbooks, dictionaries, reference materials, and multimedia resources). It further promotes learners’ capacity for self-assessment and continuous self-improvement.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities throughout the semester include: - independent and creative tasks completed as part of self-study; - midterm assessment in the form of written tests covering four components of language competence; - active participation and performance in practical classes.
Assessment methods and criteria
Continuous (semester) assessment: Maximum: 60 points Independent and creative tasks (LO 1.1–1.3, 2.1–2.3, 3, 4): 20 points Midterm assessment (written tests covering four components of language competence; LO 1.1–1.3, 2.1, 2.3, 4): 30 points Class participation and performance (LO 1.1–4): 10 points Final assessment (exam): Maximum: 40 points Assesses LO 1.1–4 Structure: Written component: (1) dictation; (2) grammar test; (3) vocabulary test Oral component: (1) linguistic text analysis; (2) theoretical grammar question; (3) oral topic Admission requirement: Students who score below the minimum threshold of 36 points during the semester are not admitted to the exam.
