Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course combines practical classes with students’ independent work. Practical classes focus on developing language skills in all areas (speaking, listening, reading, writing), practicing lexical and grammatical material, and improving phonetic skills and communicative competence. Students complete individual and group tasks (language exercises, dialogues, role plays, mini-projects), work with authentic texts and audiovisual materials, and engage in independent study using learning resources. Teaching methods include communicative and interactive approaches, practice-oriented learning, the explanatory-illustrative method, problem-based learning, and the use of digital resources and multimedia tools. The course aims to develop students’ linguistic, communicative, and sociocultural competences.
Assessment methods and criteria
During the semester, practical classes are conducted, during which assessment is carried out according to the types of tasks and forms of control. The course concludes with a final exam. The final semester grade is based on the points earned through continuous assessment and the exam. The maximum distribution is as follows: 60 points (60%) for continuous assessment and 40 points (40%) for the exam. If a student scores less than 24 points on the exam (i.e., 60% of the 40 exam points), the exam result is not added to the semester score, regardless of the points earned during the semester. In this case, only the semester score is recorded as the final grade. Grading scale: Excellent — 90–100 Good — 75–89 Satisfactory — 60–74 Unsatisfactory — 0–59
