Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before starting this course, students are expected to have a command of the basic grammatical systems of Italian and Ukrainian, as well as English, along with foundational knowledge of intercultural communication and an understanding of the national and cultural features of speech behavior in different linguistic communities. They should be familiar with various strategies and tactics of communication in diverse contexts that ensure effective social and professional interaction; be able to carry out linguistic and pre-translation analysis of source texts of different genres, work with reference materials, including electronic resources, distinguish between linguistic and speech features of pluricentric Italian, and perform editing of the final text.
Course content
The aim of the course is to develop students’ linguistic and translation competences necessary to ensure equivalence in translation within intercultural communication. The compulsory academic discipline “Practical Course of Translation from Italian” is part of the professional training cycle for Bachelor’s degree students (specialty 035 “Philology”) and is mandatory for those enrolled in the educational programme “Italian Language and Translation, English Language and a Second Romance Language.”
The course introduces students to the main types of translation, drawing on both the principles of general translation theory and the specific theory of translation from Italian into Ukrainian, thus integrating theoretical knowledge with practical application. The discipline represents a comprehensive methodological and didactic framework aimed at developing the professional skills of future translators.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
An integrated approach to the introductory course in Italian-to-Ukrainian translation lays the theoretical and practical foundation for the further development and refinement of translation skills. Theoretical concepts are reinforced through a series of exercises and authentic contemporary texts addressing current issues of interest to young people.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is conducted in accordance with the ECTS system, which provides for a two-tier evaluation of the learned material.
Throughout the semester, practical training is assessed in accordance with the types of assignments and forms of assessment described in section 7.1. Assessment is based on the student’s performance throughout the entire semester and does not involve additional assessment measures. Students who earn a minimum passing score of 60 receive a grade of “pass.” Students who have not earned the minimum passing score of 60 receive a grade of “fail.” Students who have earned a total of less than 60 points for the semester must, in order to pass the course, complete the material on the topics in which they are deficient by writing independent papers or taking tests.
