Learning outcomes
Know the basic environmental principles of formation, ways of implementation and criteria for the effectiveness of environmental policy. Understand the role of environmental assessments as a tool for implementing environmental policy, the main internationally recognized principles of environmental assessments, the advantages and disadvantages of the main approaches to determining environmental quality. Be able to: identify and describe sources of environmental impact, including when implementing subsoil use projects, identify, classify and describe factors of environmental impact, including when implementing subsoil use projects, assess the impact of subsoil use projects on natural and anthropogenic components of the environment, the flow of environmental components, including the geological environment, on subsoil use projects
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of the characteristics of the geological environment (including geochemical and geophysical fields), hazardous geological processes, and methods of subsoil use
Course content
A brief description of the main factors determining the ecological state of natural and industrial complexes is provided, as well as the basic principles of assessing the impact of subsoil use on the environment. The following main topics are considered: 1) the place and role of environmental assessments in environmental policy, the basic principles of forming environmental policy; 2) mechanisms of state regulation and control in the field of environmental safety in Ukraine; 3) the regulatory and legal framework of environmental assessments and environmental assessment procedures in Ukraine (screening, EIA, environmental expertise, environmental audit, environmental impact assessment report, environmental impact assessment conclusion): the completeness of the reflection of internationally recognized principles of environmental assessments in environmental assessment procedures in Ukraine from 1995 to the present is analyzed using the example of subsoil use projects; 4) environmental impact factors in the implementation of subsoil use projects and assessment of their impact on individual environmental components.

Assessment methods and criteria
Final assessment: A passing grade. It is given based on the results of three tests and writing an essay. A prerequisite for receiving a positive grade is not only gaining 60 points during the semester, but also completing the final test (writing a partial conclusion on the impact on the environment based on the provided case) with a score of at least 24 points. A student is not allowed to write the final test if he scored less than 30 points for writing the essay and the first two tests, or did not complete one of the tests.
