Learning outcomes
Know: basic concepts and terms of seismic wave field theory; elements of linear elasticity theory, classification of seismic boundaries and their studied parameters; methods for studying seismic wave kinematics; methods for studying seismic wave hodographs in two-layer, multi-layer, and gradient media; characteristics of seismic wave sources and spectra; methods for determining velocities based on observations at the surface and in boreholes. Be able to organize teamwork to effectively solve the task at hand.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of geophysics. 2. Proficiency in working with a personal computer.
Course content
Analysis of seismic wave fields, as well as the computer principle of processing and interpreting observed seismic data. Approaches to solving direct and inverse problems of seismic wave fields are considered. Techniques for qualitative and quantitative interpretation are studied and explained using real-life examples. The areas of application of seismometry are characterized and information on the historical development of the method is provided. The review includes geological principles for setting seismic tasks and an overview of ways to implement them and their effectiveness.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures and practical classes, independent work by students.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is carried out using a modular rating system and includes: practical work (where students must demonstrate the quality of their acquired knowledge and solve set tasks using the methods and tools outlined by the teacher). Assessment in the 7th semester involves an interim assessment, which is based on the student's performance throughout the semester, as a sum (simple or weighted) of points for systematic work throughout the 7th semester, and two written tests. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written exam.
