Learning outcomes
Know the criteria that define the concept of "rare element", classification of rare element minerals. Know the importance of rare elements in science and technology. Know the features of morphology, constitution, anatomy and physical properties of rare element minerals. Be able to diagnose the main rare element minerals.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Know the theoretical foundations of general mineralogy. Know the theoretical foundations of geochemistry.
Course content
The course provides information on the prevalence of rare element minerals and their associations in the earth's crust, the importance of rare elements in science and technology, and a description of rare element minerals. The purpose of the course is to familiarize students with modern ideas about the mineralogy of rare elements, to expand and deepen students' knowledge of rare element minerals that are of industrial importance. The task is to form in students a clear idea of rare element minerals, their features of morphology, constitution, anatomy and physical properties that reflect ontogenesis phenomena and geological processes of mineral formation; to consider the mineralogy of the main genetic and industrial types of rare element deposits.
Recommended or required reading and other learning resources/tools

Assessment methods and criteria
The results of students' academic activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale (0-59 points -fail, 60-100 - passed).
Semester assessment: - two written tests (max 15 points / min 6 points for each); survey / test / assessment for laboratory work (max 20 points / min 6 points for each); report (oral presentation and accompanying abstract) (max 30 points / min 18 points).
Final assessment - credit (max 20 points / min 12 points). Final assessment in the form of credit is not mandatory, if the student refuses to participate in this form of assessment, the student will not receive the corresponding points for the final assessment.
