Course content
The aim of the course is to develop, on the basis of a systematic understanding of the morphological structure of the modern Ukrainian language, a comprehensive view among higher education students of functional morphology as an approach to grammatical description that reveals the role of morphological units and categories in realizing the speaker’s communicative, semantic, and pragmatic intentions, as well as to foster the ability to analyze and interpret morphological means of the Ukrainian language with regard to their functions in speech and text. The academic discipline “Morphology of the Ukrainian Language in the Functional Aspect” belongs to the professional and research components of the educational program for training Master’s students in Philology. The course is aimed at an in-depth study of the morphological system of the Ukrainian language through the prism of its functional and communicative potential. Within the course, the principles of the functional approach to morphology are examined, including the specifics of the functional interpretation of word forms, morphological categories, and parts-of-speech classification, as well as the mechanisms for the realization of morphological meanings in different types of discourse. Special attention is paid to the relationship between formal and functional descriptions of morphological phenomena, the variability and multifunctionality of morphological forms, and their role in communication. The course facilitates the acquisition of the metalanguage of functional morphology, the development of skills in linguistic analysis of morphological units in a communicative context, and the formation of research competence in higher education students.
