Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before the course of study students are expected to complete successfully the program’s previous literary disciplines; to demonstrate knowledge of major stages of foreign literature evolution as well as dominant philosophical and aesthetic trends and tendencies, precedent-related texts required for the compulsory courses; to define principal themes and problems that emerge from studies of British and Latin American literary process of the 20th century; to build a firm foundation for study of theory of identity, modern methodologies meditating on identity issues in literature; to use selected literary terms accurately; to sharpen skills in analyzing literary texts.
Course content
The course aims to study the main theoretical, methodological and historical-cultural principles of studying the problem of cultural identity and the features of its artistic representation in modern works of foreign literature. The course forms a scientific understanding of the concept of cultural identity in students; promotes the assimilation of a set of concepts related to identity issues; reveals the essence and content of the main trends in the development of foreign literature of the 20th - early 21st centuries. Based on the study of a corpus of works that represent different strategies for constructing cultural identity. During the course, students master new terminology, identify key constants, markers and components of cultural identity in different national versions of modern prose; become familiar with the features of the reception of individual works in the Ukrainian context (translations, cinematic or multimedia adaptations, research, artistic reception). The course also aims to teach students to conduct a literary analysis of the artistic representation of cultural identity in iconic modern works of foreign literature using modern interpretive methodologies.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course provides students with a range of assessment in different forms: oral personal responses, additional responses, class discussions, presentations of individual projects, final test (including open-ended questions). The following teaching methods are suggested: lecture, seminar, viewing the videos relevant to course tasks, individual projects, self-study work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course ends with a credit. The course final mark is calculated as a sum of ongoing assessment points and does not require any other forms of final control. Ongoing assessment is provided by seminar class activities: oral personal responses, additional responses, class discussions (max 15\min 9 points), presentations of individual projects (max 15\min 11 points) and completion of final test (max 20\min 12 points). Total final assessment is max 100\min 60 points). The students who do not meet the standard required for the lowest grade (min 60 points) will have to be assessed by completing self-study works and final test. The final evaluation of learning outcomes is carried out on a single 100-point scale. There is applied the scale of conformity with grades: Credited 60-100; Not credited 0-59.
