Learning Outcome 2. Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student must have successfully completed the following courses: "Introduction to Linguistics", "Introduction to Translation Studies", "Practical Course of the First Foreign Language", "Practice of Translation and Interpretation" (in the scope of the second year) and know basic linguistic concepts; principles of language material analysis; peculiarities of semantics, structure and functioning of units of all levels of the Italian language; basics of communication theory and be able to apply linguistic tools in practice; have basic skills of selection, analysis and interpretation of linguistic facts; communication on linguistic topics.
Course content
The course consists of theoretical and practical parts. The lecture part of the course is devoted to such problems as the general theory of the word, the semantic structure of the word and the semantic relations between lexical units, word formation, etymology and phraseology of the Italian language. At the end of the lecture course, students write the first modular control paper. Practical classes are devoted to consolidation of theoretical knowledge and their practical use during lexicological analysis. The cycle of practical classes also ends with a modular test. At the end of the course, students take an oral exam. The goals of the program: increase the level of training of students in the theory of language, development of scientific understanding of methods of lexicological research. The focus is on a comparative analysis of the lexical system of the Italian and Ukrainian languages.

Assessment methods and criteria
The material covered in lectures on the relevant topics is reinforced during practical sessions, and students’ mastery of this material is assessed during these sessions, in accordance with the provisions of Section 7.1 of the Course Syllabus. The syllabus requires the completion of two modules. The course concludes with an exam. The final grade is determined by the points earned by the student during the completion of the specified types and forms of instruction and on the exam. The maximum distribution is as follows: 60 points during the semester and 40 points (20%) on the exam. If a student scores less than 24 points on the exam, those points are not added to the semester grade regardless of the number of points earned during the semester, and only the number of points earned during the semester is indicated in the “final grade for the course” column of the exam record.
