Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate fluently on professional matters with specialists and non-specialists in the national and foreign languages, both orally and in writing, and use these skills to facilitate effective intercultural communication.
PLO 2. Work effectively with information: select the necessary information from various sources, including specialist literature and electronic databases.
PLO 11. Know the principles, techniques and methods of creating spoken and written texts of various genres and styles in the national language and Spanish.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students should be familiar with the main principles of ‘Introduction to General Linguistics’ and the place of the Spanish language among the Romance languages, as well as its multinational character in a globalised world; they should also possess basic factual knowledge of a linguistic nature. Be able to work with teaching and audio-visual materials, and use interactive and multimedia resources. Possess basic skills in linguistic and intercultural communication, the rules for producing complex oral and written messages; interaction and cooperation in the learning process in various communicative situations. Level of proficiency in Spanish – A1.
Course content
The compulsory course ‘Practical Spanish’ forms part of the professional training programme for students studying for a Bachelor’s degree (specialisation 035 ‘Philology’). This is a compulsory module for students enrolled on the educational and professional programme (EPP) ‘French Language and Translation, English Language and a Second Romance Language’. The aim of the course is to ensure practical proficiency in Spanish and to foster the development of oral and written communication skills within the scope of the prescribed topics and vocabulary necessary for communication, reading, and understanding adapted literary works and texts on socio-cultural topics. The teaching is based on a methodological framework that takes into account the selection of teaching materials on Spanish phonetics and grammar. The teaching materials include the use of audio-visual courses, the aim of which is to develop communicative and linguistic skills, as well as listening comprehension skills in the foreign language.

The following forms of assessment are used to check students’ understanding of the material: oral responses, quick quizzes, tests, module assessments, writing summaries of Spanish-language material that has been listened to or watched, independent study, and creative tasks.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is carried out in accordance with the ECTS system, which provides for a two-tier assessment of the material covered, including the assessment of practical training.
Final assessment:
The final assessment takes the form of a test:
the maximum number of marks for the test is 20; the minimum number of marks (pass mark) required to pass, which are added to the semester marks, is 12 (60% of the maximum number of marks allocated for the test). The test consists of twenty questions, each worth 1 mark.
