Learning outcomes

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of practical Italian language courses taught over five semesters of study, and a command of practical Italian grammar; the ability to read and understand authentic texts, and to comprehend monologues and dialogues spoken by native speakers; the ability to express one’s thoughts logically and coherently, both orally and in writing.
Course content
This course is a compulsory module for third-year students specialising in ‘Italian Language and Translation, English Language and a Second Romance Language’. It is taught in the fifth semester and carries 3 credits, comprising a total of 90 hours: 28 hours of lectures, 16 hours of practical sessions, and 46 hours of independent study. It concludes with an examination. The course covers general information on the theory of Italian grammar, the history of theoretical studies, and the study of the characteristics of the grammatical structure of the Italian language and methods of its analysis based on contemporary linguistic material.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Answers given during practical sessions; multimedia presentations/reports; ongoing assessment tests; exercises analysing grammatical phenomena; module-based assessment tests. Throughout the semester, practical sessions are held on the relevant topics, during which assessment is carried out in accordance with the types of work and forms of assessment described above
Assessment methods and criteria
The final mark for the course (maximum 100 marks) is calculated as the sum of marks awarded for coursework throughout the semester, taking into account the final assessment (an examination conducted in both oral and written formats). Admission to the examination is conditional upon the student having successfully completed assignments and coursework throughout the semester. Consequently, the final mark for the course (minimum 60, maximum 100 marks) consists of the sum of the marks for coursework (minimum 36, maximum 60 marks) and the final assessment – the examination (minimum 24, maximum 40 marks).
