Learning outcomes
PLO 1. To communicate freely on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists in national and foreign languages orally and in writing, use them to organize effective intercultural communication.
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Persian language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities.
PLO 9. To characterize the dialectal and social varieties of the Persian languages, describe the sociolinguistic situation.
PLO 10. To know the norms of the literary language and be able to apply them in practical activities.
PLO 14. To use Persian and English in oral and written form, in various genre-stylistic varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral) to solve communicative tasks in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the following courses: “Persian Language: Advanced Level,” “Fundamentals of Persian Translation Theory,” “Fundamentals of Persian Translation Practice,” “Iranian Linguistics and Area Studies,” and “Introduction to Persian Philology”; mastery of the rules for the written representation of sounds and sound combinations in the Persian language; knowledge of basic grammatical phenomena, and mastery of lexical and phraseological material within the scope of the topics covered by the curriculum.
Course content
The aim of the course is to equip students with knowledge of modern standard Persian within the framework of normative grammar, to develop their ability to converse in Persian on the topics covered, to comprehend spoken Persian, and to read, write, and correctly formulate and express their thoughts in Persian.
The course “Persian Language: Functional Level” focuses on teaching the professional use of the Persian language, that is, the correct use of the language in terms of norms and style, as well as its situationally and contextually appropriate use at the functional level as a means of oral and written communication in key areas of interaction.
This course is a component of the comprehensive course “Practical Course in Persian.” Instruction takes the form of practical classes and includes independent study. The course concludes with an exam in the seventh and eighth semesters.

Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment in the 7th and 8th semesters follows the same format. The final grade consists of semester coursework (60%) and the exam (40%). Semester assessment (max. 60 points) During each semester, points are distributed as follows: Oral responses: up to 20 points (assessment of vocabulary, pronunciation, and retelling skills). Written and test assignments: up to 20 points (assessment of spelling, translation accuracy, and grammar). Module tests: up to 20 points (two tests per semester, 10 points each). To be eligible for the exam, a student must earn a minimum of 36 points. Final exam (max. 40 points) The exam in both semesters includes: A grammar question (15 points). A conversation topic (15 points). Translation of an unfamiliar text (10 points). The minimum passing score for the exam is 24. The final grade is assigned on a 100-point scale: excellent (90–100), good (75–89), satisfactory (60–74).
