Learning outcomes
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Persian language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities.
PLO 9. To characterize the dialectal and social varieties of the Persian languages, describe the sociolinguistic situation.
PLO 12. Analyze Persian linguistic units, identify their interactions, and describe the linguistic phenomena and processes that underlie them.
PLO 14. To use Persian and English in oral and written form, in various genre-stylistic varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral) to solve communicative tasks in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life.
PLO 17. To collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of language and speech and use them for solving complex problems in specialized fields of professional activity and/or education.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the following courses: “Linguistic and Cultural Studies of Iran,” “Persian Language: Beginner Level,” “Persian Language: Intermediate Level,” “Lexicology of the Persian Language,” and “Fundamentals of Persian Translation Practice.”
Knowledge of the colloquial features of the Persian language, linguistic terminology, and the laws of language development (from the course “Fundamentals of Linguistics”), as well as the basic concepts of Persian lexicology.
Course content
The aim of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the main phonetic, morphological, lexical-semantic, and syntactic features of the Tehran dialect as the basis for the development of a koine—a colloquial variant of Modern Persian shared by all residents of the country—as well as the rules for its written representation. The course is designed to develop students’ skills in using the Tehran dialect in both monologue and dialogue.
The course “Tehran Dialect” introduces students to the phonetic, morphological, lexical-semantic, and syntactic features of the Tehran dialect of the Persian language, as well as the rules for its written representation. The course consists of two main sections. The first section focuses on familiarizing students with the features of the colloquial variant of modern Persian, which is based on the Tehran dialect. The second section is devoted to developing students’ skills in using the linguistic features of the Tehran dialect in monologue and dialogue.
The course is part of the elective block “Iranian Studies: Linguistic Studies and Translation.” Instruction takes the form of practical classes and includes independent study. The course concludes with an exam.

Assessment methods and criteria
According to the syllabus, assessment is conducted using the ECTS system and consists of midterm assessments (60%) and a final exam (40%). Midterm assessments (max. 60 points) Assessment during the semester includes the following types of assignments: Oral responses: assessed for mastery of the material and the strength of reasoning (3–5 points per response). Written and test assignments: the correctness of exercises and tests is checked (3–5 points per assignment). Module tests: two tests per semester (6–10 points each). The minimum number of points required to be admitted to the exam is 36. Final assessment (Exam — max. 40 points) The exam consists of a listening comprehension section and two written tasks. 24–40 points: the student has mastered the material to a satisfactory to full extent. Less than 24 points: the exam is considered failed, and the points are not added to the semester grade.Grading Scale90–100: Excellent.75–89: Good.60–74: Satisfactory.0–59: Unsatisfactory.
