Learning outcomes
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Persian language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 9. To characterize the dialectal and social varieties of the Persian languages, describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 12. To analyze Persian linguistic units, determine their interaction and characterize linguistic phenomena and processes that cause them. PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres. PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, to be able to apply it.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful mastery of the course material for the specialist modules ‘Persian Language: Basic Level’, ‘Persian Language: Intermediate Level’, ‘Fundamentals of Persian Translation Theory’ and ‘Fundamentals of Persian Translation Practice’; 2) knowledge of the phonetics, vocabulary, morphology and grammar of modern Persian, acquired during the practical Persian language course; 3) linguistic awareness and knowledge of linguistic terminology from the course ‘Fundamentals of Linguistics’.
Course content
The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the distinctive features of speech in various spheres of the Persian language (including everyday, formal, academic, journalistic and literary contexts), with the diversity of linguistic and stylistic means of the Persian language for the full and effective conveyance of information in accordance with the purpose and conditions of communication, as well as with the specifics of translating texts of various functional styles. A description is provided of the expressive means and stylistic resources of the Persian literary language, which are analysed in terms of their mechanisms of formation, spheres of usage and principles of selection depending on the aims and circumstances of communication. Differences in the understanding of the subject and object of stylistic study in Ukrainian and Iranian philological scholarship are analysed. The course examines the peculiarities of translating Persian-language texts of various functional styles. The course comprises two main sections. The first section is devoted to general issues of stylistics as an academic discipline in Ukrainian and Iranian philological studies. The second part examines the peculiarities of the use of specific linguistic and stylistic devices in Persian-language texts of various functional styles and their translation into Ukrainian. The course ‘Stylistics of the Persian Language’ forms part of the comprehensive course ‘Theory and History of the Persian Language’. Teaching takes the form of lectures and seminars. The course concludes with a mid-term assessment.

Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is conducted according to the ECTS system and consists of theoretical (40%) and practical training (60%). Assessment methods: Semester assessment (100 points): includes in-class work, independent study, and assessments. Midterm exam: results (50% of total points) are included in the final grade for the comprehensive course “Theory and History of the Persian Language.” Criteria and points: Oral responses (up to 5 points): comprehensive, well-reasoned mastery of the material. Tests and written assignments (up to 10 points): depend on the percentage of correct answers (100% — 10 points). Term paper/Presentation (up to 10 points): assessed based on the depth of research and independence. Module assignments (2 x 10 points): assessment of theoretical knowledge. Final exam (20 points): assesses comprehensive mastery of the course. The minimum score for successful completion is 60, the maximum is 100.
