Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Work effectively with information: select the necessary information from various sources, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it.
PLO 5. Cooperate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc.
PLO 8. Know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of English and two Western European languages and literatures being studied, and be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities.
PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and English-language fiction and oral folk art, determine their specifics and place in the literary process.
PLO 15. Carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastery of the previous parts of the comprehensive discipline History of Foreign Literature (parts 1-2).
2. Knowledge of the basic terms and concepts of English-language literary studies.
3. Possession of skills in applying methodologies of the main schools of literary analysis and interpretation of the text.
Course content
The discipline introduces students to the development of literature of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The course reveals the content of the symbolic-allegorical type of medieval artistic thinking, introduces the main genres of medieval literature in the West. Students acquire knowledge about the Renaissance, its geographical and chronological boundaries, the role of the ancient heritage and the connection with the culture of the High Middle Ages. The course emphasizes the concepts of Renaissance humanism, anthropocentrism. The Renaissance is represented by a variety of new styles and genres. During the study of the discipline, students continue to form general skills of literary and critical analysis and the ability to independently interpret artistic texts.

Teaching methods used in the educational process: lectures, practical classes, independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final assessment is carried out in the form of a comprehensive exam:
- the maximum number of points on the exam is 40 points, the minimum number of points
(positive assessment), which are added to the semester ones - 24 points (60% of the maximum number
of points allocated for the exam);
- the exam is conducted in the form of a written paper, the exam paper consists of three tasks: a theoretical question (37.5%) - rated max 15 points, a theoretical and practical question (37.5%) - rated max 15 points, and a task to define and explain the meaning of 5 arbitrary terms (25%) - rated max 10 points.
