Learning outcomes
PLO 8. Know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of English and two Western European languages ​​and literatures being studied, and be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 10. Know the norms of literary language and be able to apply them in practical activities. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of creating oral and written texts of various genres and styles in the state and English languages ​​and two Western European languages. PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction and characterize the linguistic phenomena and processes that determine them. Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students are to know English (equal to or above B1 level); to know key linguistic terminology and principles of linguistic analysis as well as to be able to use lexical and grammar constructions in various communication situations (in oral and written forms), to be have skills of collecting, analysing and inferring various language facts; to have basic skills of public speaking
Course content
The education program of the discipline is designed for the third year foreign students in compliance with the new education program of the Institute of philology of Taras Shechenko National University of Kyiv. This programme is based on communicative approach with the use of authentic materials and real communication sutiations. Part “Grammar of Spoken English. Grammar of Written English” is aimed at learning basic lexical and grammar structures, syntactic and stylistics peculiarities of English texts. Learning consists of practical part and individual work of students.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The curriculum includes such activities: oral answers in practical classes and participation in discussions; grammar quizzes and tests presentations
Assessment methods and criteria
Term assessment: • students can get the maximum of 60 points for the term, • oral answers in practical classes, participation in discussions, grammar quizzes and tests: TR 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2, 3, 4- 25/45 points • presentation: TR 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.2, 4 – 11/15 points • • Final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam: Students who scored a total of less than the critical minimum (36 points) are not allowed to take the exam.
