Prerequisites and co-requisites
To be familiar with the key events, dates and most important facts concerning the history, socio-political, spiritual and cultural life of the Eastern Slavs, from the invention of writing to the end of the 16th century. 2. Be able to link theoretical knowledge to specific phenomena in fiction and general historical and literary facts; analyse works of fiction read in the original and in translation, taking into account the development of general aesthetic trends of the period; evaluate phenomena in Belarusian and world literature in their inseparable unity. 3. Possess basic skills in reading and listening to Belarusian-language texts, as well as the principles of searching for, collecting, accumulating and processing information; possess basic knowledge of an introduction to Slavic philology, the history of ancient Ukrainian literature, the folklore of the Western and Eastern Slavs, and the Belarusian language.
Course content
The course ‘History of Belarusian Literature from its Origins to the End of the 16th Century’ forms part of the comprehensive course ‘History of Belarusian Literature’. It aims to highlight the distinctive features of the development of ancient Belarusian literature; the evolution of artistic methods, movements and genres; information about the most significant figures in literature and culture of the period in question; and to familiarise students with landmark works of Belarusian literature from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, placed within the context of national history and traditions. Literary works have been selected on the basis of their aesthetic and universal value, artistic originality and specific historical relevance to the life of the Belarusian people. The course consists of two parts: Part I. Literature of the Medieval Period (11th–15th centuries) and Part II. Renaissance literature (15th–16th centuries), comprising two content modules and one module-based assessment. Classes are conducted in the form of lectures and seminars, utilising interactive teaching methods. The course concludes with a final assessment.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures and seminars, management of independent work and control over its implementation, individual consultations, credit.
Assessment methods and criteria
After lectures on relevant topics, seminars are held, which are evaluated according to the planned types of work and forms of control: oral report / analysis of the work of art (max. 5), abstract / essay (max. 10), modular test. ), additions, participation in the discussion (max. 4), presentation (max. 6). During the semester written works are checked, individual consultations are held, the level of assimilation of the material submitted for independent processing is estimated. The test is set based on the results of the student's work during the semester and does not provide for additional assessment activities. Students who score 60 points (minimum positive number of points) receive a "credit".
