PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, classical and a foreign language. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and specific philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres in Ancient Greek and Latin. PLO 22. Realize the role and place of classical languages and literatures in the context of the European linguistic and cultural space, in the strategies of the development of the contemporary academic paradigm and modern civilization.

Full-time form

1) successful mastery of the mandatory disciplines "History of Ancient Greek Literature", "History of Roman Literature", "History of Ancient Rhetoric" and normative courses in classical languages; 2) knowledge of the phonetics of the ancient Greek and Latin languages; 3) possession of basic skills and abilities of literary analysis and analysis of language units.

The goal of the course is to form students' knowledge of the ancient versification system, skills and abilities to read poems and stanzas of various metrical structures. Within the scope of the discipline, the basic rules of ancient quantitative poetry are considered. The main concepts of ancient metrics entered the theory of European literary studies and are actively used to this day. That is why the subject of study of this discipline is the rules of ancient Greek and Latin prosody, phonetic phenomena in a verse line, the structure of an ancient poem, verse measures and stanzas. Analyzing the metrical structure of various samples of ancient poetry, students learn an integral element of ancient Greek and Roman culture: the ability to compose, analyze and recite quantitative poetry, and also learn to find metrical counterparts in European poetry of different periods.

Lectures, practical classes, independent work

Assessment is conducted on a 100-point scale (minimum 60). The semester grade synthesizes classroom and independent work, including the analysis of metric schemes. Oral responses (max 6) and report-analyses (max 10) evaluate the depth of knowledge and use of literature. Participation in discussions adds up to 4 points for thoroughness. An open-ended control work (max 40) assesses depth, independence, and argumentation.
