The discipline is part of the cycle of fundamental, humanitarian, and general economic training for specialists. The introduction of this discipline into the curriculum is recommended by the Scientific and Methodological Council of the university, as the environmentalization of all spheres of human activity is a universally recognized priority of states and international institutions in the field of higher education. The subject of modern ecology is the relationships of organisms with the environment and the structural-functional organization of supra-organismal systems (populations, groups, ecosystems, the biosphere), as well as the mechanisms for maintaining their stability in space and time. The discipline serves as the scientific foundation for all nature conservation work and is an integral component of environmental management, ecological forecasting, and optimization of various forms of economic, social, or other human activities.

All learning outcomes are assessed during lectures through oral examinations and based on the results of independent work throughout the semester. After completing relevant topics to check theoretical knowledge, continuous written tests with both multiple-choice and open-ended tasks are conducted. Evaluation of knowledge and communication skills occurs systematically throughout the semester, following the thematic plan of lecture and seminar sessions. The semester's total score is calculated on an accumulative basis: maximum 100 points, minimum 60 points.
