Prerequisites and co-requisites
To know: theoretical and methodical principles of river studies as a new scientific discipline, principles of organization, methods and technology of conducting studies of river formation processes, changes in the manifestation of river processes under the influence of climate changes and economic activity; new methods and approaches regarding estimates of channel-forming flows of water and sediments, as well as channel deformations; assessments of the stability of plain and mountain riverbeds; the main provisions of the hydroecological assessment of channel processes; features of channel processes on mountain rivers; the basis of hydromorphological assessment according to the provisions of the EU WRD. To be able to: - conduct author's research and, in particular, in the part of collecting channel and hydrological information, formulate theoretical premises and working hypotheses, justify methods and methods of analysis of channel processes,
Course content
The academic discipline is devoted to studying the theoretical and methodological foundations of channel science as a new scientific field, the conditions of river channel formation, as well as the patterns and causes of their present-day changes. It covers the application of new methods and approaches to the assessment of channel-forming water and sediment discharges, as well as channel deformations; the determination of the stability of lowland and mountain river channels; the main principles of hydro-ecological assessment of channel processes; the specific features of channel processes in mountain rivers; and the fundamentals of hydromorphological assessment according to the provisions of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD).
