Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastery of the courses "Molecular Biology of Viruses", "Genetics of Viruses", "Biochemistry of Viruses", "Anatomy and Physiology of Plants", "Microbiology", "Virusology", "General Genetics". 2. Be able to independently apply knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology and other disciplines, work with scientific and methodological literature. 3. Have elementary skills in working with electron microscopic images of viruses and, based on the characteristics of the virus, find its taxonomic position.
Course content
The discipline forms an idea of microorganism viruses and their structure and functional diversity; introduces the prospects for the development of modern methods for the detection and diagnosis of microorganism viruses, the use of preparations based on bacteriophages in industry and medicine; teaches to navigate the taxonomic diversity of microorganism viruses. The stages of development of microorganism viruses with different life cycles are covered in detail. The main mechanisms of protection of prokaryotes from bacteriophages and the general principles of phage therapy are considered.
