Learning outcomes
Know: understanding of the main methods and technologies of drilling of prospecting boreholes; under-standing of the basic differences of borehole drilling in water area of seas and oceans; understanding of technological processes at drilling of boreholes for water;
Be able to: ability to distinguish kinds of drilling mud-fluids and their use at drilling on different kinds of minerals; ability to define parameters of mud-fluids;

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastery of theoretical foundations of methods and technologies of drilling wells in various geological conditions. Possession of elementary skills in drilling shallow wells, mainly in soft and loose rocks, for solving geological and prospecting tasks, exploration of building materials and placer deposits, engineering geological and hydrogeological studies, core and rotary drilling.
Course content
The discipline covers studying of modern methods of drilling of boreholes of different function and at various depths. Technologies of drilling used at searches and prospection of mineral deposits are consid-ered. General information about special works in boreholes are discussed. Studying of the basic industri-al processes at drilling and the equipment of boreholes are made. Aim of teaching discipline – familiari-zation of students with the basic technological processes of drilling; with choice of methods of drilling and application of mud-fluids for searches and prospection of different kinds of minerals. Objects of teaching discipline – understanding of technology of drilling for prospecting boreholes by different methods; approbation of geological sample material selected from boreholes, its documentation, features of borehole drilling in the sea. The obtained knowledge is widely applied at carrying out prospecting works during stages of geological survey, searches and prospection of mineral deposits.

Assessment methods and criteria
on modular-rating system, estimation on 100 degree scale, resultant mark is based on modular written test - 30 %, written tests during practical trainings - 30 % and test - 40 %.
