Learning outcomes
Know: The main directions of subsoil use; stages of geological and technical-economic study of subsoil; the concept of reserves and resources of minerals; classification of reserves and resources; factors that determine the industrial value of mineral deposits. Be able to: Calculate the number of forecast and prospective resources of the allocated area using vari-ous methods; select parameters for calculating reserves in accordance with the selected calculation method and the complexity of the geological structure of the deposit; calculate reserves using the meth-ods of geological and operational blocks, geological sections and horizon plans.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the course "Structural Geology and Geomapping", "Fundamentals of Mineral-ogy and Crystallography", "Higher Mathematics" or similar in content. Possess skills in working with geological sections, large-scale maps and plans, statistical data processing, spreadsheets and other data sources.
Course content
The course introduces the basics of quantitative, qualitative and cost assessment of mineral resources and reserves, as well as other resources of the geological space. The stages and complexity of geological study of the subsoil are studied. The global and regional features of the development of the mineral re-source base and trends in the use of mineral resources are studied. Students acquire practical skills in an-alyzing the results of geological exploration at different stages of subsoil development.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
lectures and practical classes, independent student work
Assessment methods and criteria
Control is carried out according to the modular rating system and involves: completing 14 practical works (where students must demonstrate the quality of the acquired knowledge and solve the tasks set using the methods and tools outlined by the teacher), completing 5 independent practical works (where students must demonstrate the quality of the acquired knowledge and solve the tasks set without limiting the tools and techniques for solving the problem) and conducting 2 written modular control works. The final assessment is carried out in the form of a written-oral exam.
