Learning outcomes
Know: basic concepts of the Earth's gravitational field; physical and mathematical foundations of gravimetry; equipment, its structure and methods of measuring elements of the gravity field; methods of gravity surveying and detailed topographic works; basic principles of qualitative and quantitative interpretation of gravitational anomalies, filtering methods and types of transformations of potential fields; methods of complex interpretation (modern computer data processing systems) of geophysical data. Apply gravimetric equipment to measure the field of gravity and its derivatives, measure rock density. Organize and conduct gravimetric surveys independently. Perform qualitative and quantitative interpretation of gravimetric data, apply gravimetric methods in the practice of geological exploration. Be able to organize a team geophysical survey to effectively solve the task.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of theoretical foundations of physics, mathematics and geophysical research methods.
Course content
The course focuses on the physical and mathematical foundations of gravimetry, the structure and operation of modern gravimetric equipment. The basic principles of solving direct and inverse gravimetry problems are considered. The methods of qualitative and quantitative interpretation of gravimetric data are described, and the basics of primary processing of field gravimetric data are provided. The course also covers the study of gravimetry applications, the combination of gravity surveying with other geophysical methods in various surveys, prospecting and exploration of mineral resources, and the solution of engineering and geological problems in environmental studies.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, laboratory classes and independent work of students.
Assessment methods and criteria
The control is carried out according to the module-rating system and includes: 8 laboratory works (where applicants must demonstrate the quality of their knowledge and solve the tasks, using the methods and means specified by the teacher) and 3 written module tests. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written test. An applicant is not allowed to take the test if he or she scored less than 40 points during the semester.
