Learning outcomes
Knowledge Required:
- Understand the main data organization models.
- Know the structural elements of relational databases.
- Be familiar with key data types, including geodata.
- Understand the primary methods of organizing base tables, indexes, and queries.
- Comprehend data integrity and data anomalies.
- Know the purpose and syntax of basic SQL language operators.
- Be familiar with the main modules of database management systems.
- Understand the specifics of representing geological data and organizing access to it.
Skills Required:
- Be able to create basic tables and queries to solve assigned tasks.
- Determine input and output data, as well as their format, for solving assigned tasks.
- Write and test SQL commands, and define test cases.
- Use database management systems for data entry and utilization, including geodata.
- Organize information in databases in a clear format accessible to other users for effective task resolution.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of the "Information Technology" course.
2. Possess basic skills in working with a personal computer.
Course content
An introduction to the fundamentals of data organization and database management systems takes place. Students become familiar with the stages of developing the main elements of databases, their representation, and evaluation. General paradigms of database design are studied, and students are introduced to modern database management environments. Students also become acquainted with the structure and primary definitions of the SQL programming language.

Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is carried out using a modular rating system and includes: completion of 10 practical tasks (where students must demonstrate the quality of acquired knowledge and solve assigned problems using methods and tools specified by the instructor) and the completion of 2 written modular tests. Final evaluation is conducted in the form of a written-oral exam.
