Learning outcomes
Know the composition and structure of soils as multicomponent systems; the nature of deformation and strength of soils; the influence of genesis, petrographic composition, geological and physical fields, natural waters, history of geological development of the territory and technogenesis on the formation of engineering and geological features of soils; technical means and technologies of research of composition and properties of soils in laboratory conditions; normative and standardized documents regulating methods of studying soil properties. be able to identify and describe different types of soils; calculate the main indicators of soil properties; to allocate engineering-geological elements in the soil massif; to predict possible changes in soil properties under the influence of structures
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful study of the discipline "Engineering Geology"
Course content
There is an acquaintance with the theoretical and methodological foundations of soil science, its position in the system of geological sciences, composition and structure, physical, physicochemical and physico-mechanical properties of soils. Students get acquainted with natural rocky and dispersed soils. Modern ideas about the formation of the composition, structure, condition and properties of soils are considered.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, laboratory work, independent work of students
Assessment methods and criteria
Control involves lab works and 3 written tests. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written and oral exam. The results of students' learning activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale. A student is not allowed to take the final grade if he/she scored less than 20 points during the semester. During the semester the student can score from 36 to 60 points. During the exam the student can get from 24 to 40 points
