Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. To be able to analyze and find sources of information about international environmental protection
organizations and programs, and determine their role in solving global and regional
geoecological problems.
2. To know the essence of global and regional geoecological problems, the main features
functioning of natural geosystems affected by anthropogenic activity;
principles and methods of ensuring balanced development of territories.
Course content
academic discipline "International
environmental protection organizations and programs" is dedicated to the overview of the main international ones
organizations in the field of protection of various geospheres (atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, pedosphere).
Attention is focused on specific international environmental organizations and
programs, the role of the UN and its divisions in the field of environmental protection. The story unfolds
creation of the main international intergovernmental and non-governmental environmental protection organizations.
International environmental agreements, which were adopted as part of the activity, are analyzed.
The discipline consists of two content modules. The first one analyzes the history and
the current state of international environmental cooperation, the role of the UN and its structures
units in the field of environmental protection, the United Nations Environment Program,
environmental activities of UNESCO, the program "Man and the Biosphere", environmental activities
Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. In the second substantive section
non-governmental international environmental protection organizations and programs are considered, in particular
International Union for Conservation of Nature, World Wildlife Fund, Club of Rome,
World Society for the Protection of Wild Animals, Greenpeace, as well as regional intergovernmental
organization European Environment Agency..
The study discipline "International environmental protection organizations and programs" is
one of the components of the comprehensive training of applicants for the master's degree
specialty "106 Geography" of the educational and scientific program "Transboundary environmental protection
cooperation".
