LO 1. To know and understand economic concepts, laws, causal and functional relations between processes and phenomena at different levels of economic systems LO 13. To understand peculiarities of the functioning of enterprises under current economic situation and to demonstrate understanding of their market positioning.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of courses «Economics» and «Higher mathematics». Knowledge of theoretical basis of the course «History of Economics and Economic Thought».
Course content
The subject of the academic course «Microeconomics» is a conduct of business units at the primary level of economic system (households and firms), e.g. economic relationships between business units at the microlevel of economic system towards maximum satisfaction of their needs under resource scarcity. Course consists of two content modules: Content module 1. «Theory of household and firm» is dedicated to the study of consumers’ behaviour, the reaction of households’ demand on the price and income changes, production process and costs related to it and also identification of firm’s optimum output under different market structures (perfect and imperfect competition). Content module 2. «Market coordination and general economic optimality» is oriented at the study of peculiarities of demand and supply formation at the resource markets, special issues of reaching partial and general equilibrium, theories of social welfare and market failures.

Assessment methods and criteria
1. Discussions, oral tests – 10 points / 6 points; 2. Fulfilment of calculation tasks – 5 points / 3 points; 3. Tests – 5 points / 3 points; 3. Midterm test (2 writing working papers, each for 10 points maximum) – 20 points / 12 points; 4. Individual work (working paper) – 20 points / 12 points. 5. Exam – 40 points / 24 points.
