Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the basics of construction, architecture and components of computer systems; system resources of computer systems and their characteristics; 2. Be able - do research on the available system resources of the computer system; evaluate the effectiveness of the use of software and hardware; make a choice of an effective hardware platform. 3. Possess basic programming skills, use mathematical methods in computer systems, work with computer system hardware.
Course content
An operating system is a set of control and processing programs that, on the one hand, act as an interface between computer system devices and application programs, and on the other hand, are designed to manage devices and computing processes, efficiently allocate resources between computing processes, and organize reliable computing. Operating systems provide, firstly, the ease of use of the computer system, and secondly, the efficiency and reliability of work. The educational task of the discipline "Operating systems and their protection" is the formation of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the principles and technologies of design, configuration and protection of modern operating systems that ensure the organization of computing processes. To ensure the ability of students to understand the principles of operation of operating systems, the principles of managing computer system resources, interaction with application software, protection of operating system resources, as well as to reasonably choose an operating system for solving certain tasks.
Recommended or required reading and other learning resources/tools
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, laboratory activities, practical activities, independent work
Assessment methods and criteria
The level of achievement of all the planned learning outcomes is determined by the results of the tasks for practical work, laboratory work and control work. The form of assessment is credit. The results of students' educational activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale. The semester number of points is formed by the points received by the student in the process of assimilation of material from all topics of substantive modules, namely, the student's successful performance of laboratory and practical work, and writing modular test papers on substantive modules and the final test paper. The condition for receiving a positive final grade for a discipline is to achieve at least 60% of the maximum possible number of points, while the grade based on the results of the "skill" training cannot be less than 50% of the maximum level. Upon receiving the resulting final number of points from 60 and above, the student is assigned a credit.
