Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Knowledge of the basic foundations of general geology, foundations of geophysics and petroleum geology. 2. Have the skills to analyze and summarize geological and geophysical information, work with databases and other data sources
Course content
The basics of scientific prediction of the oil and gas accumulations are studied. Criteria and methods for predictive hydrocarbon studies are considered. Approaches to the analysis of the sedimentary sections and the presence of source rocks, reservoirs and seals are described. Approaches to the reconstruction of geological and thermal history of sedimentary basins, conditions of formation of structural and stratigraphic traps are analyzed. Practical skills in application of methods of quantitative assessment of hydrocarbon resources and reserves are included. Principles of mapping and modelling hydrocarbon potential and criteria for the spatial distribution of prospects as well as approaches to risk assessment also are considered

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, seminars, independent work of students
Assessment methods and criteria
The control is carried out according to the modular rating system and includes: reviews and scientific reports at seminars (where students must participate in scientific discussions, demonstrating the ability to apply the optimal set of methods and tools outlined by the teacher to solve problems of oil and gas predicting), independent practical work (where students must demonstrate the quality of acquired knowledge and solve problems without limiting tools and techniques for solving the problem) and conducting 2 written modular tests. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written and oral exam
