Learning outcomes
Know: - theoretical foundations, leading methods and latest achievements of modern geochemistry; - geochemical properties of chemical elements; - factors that control the distribution of elements in the Earth's geospheres and its magmatic, magmatogenic hydrothermal, metamorphic and sedimentary systems; Be able: - evaluate the possibility of applying modern models of the behavior of elements in the analysis of natural systems - to analyze natural mineral-, petro-, and ore-forming processes from the point of view of the behavior of chemical elements depending on their geochemical properties and environmental conditions.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the courses "Chemistry", "Physics", "General and historical geology", "Mineralogy with the basics of crystallography".
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to acquaint students with the theoretical foundations, leading methods and latest achievements of modern geochemistry, as well as the formation of objective ideas about its place and significance in the system of modern fundamental and applied Earth sciences. Knowledge about the place and significance of geochemistry in the system of modern fundamental and applied Earth sciences is provided; methods of geochemistry; geochemical characteristics of the planet Earth; factors that control the distribution of elements in the Earth's geospheres; radioactive decay and fractionation of isotopes as factors of their distribution; geochemistry of natural magmatic, magmatogenic-hydrothermal, metamorphic and sedimentary systems; geochemical evolution of the Earth; applied aspects of geochemistry.
Recommended or required reading and other learning resources/tools
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, consultations, independent student work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester evaluation; - control test 1 (max 20 points, milestone - 12 points) - control test 2 (max 40 points, milestone - 24 points) Final evaluation (mandatory) in the form of a written and oral exam (max. 40 points, cutoff - 24 points). The results of students' educational activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale. The overall grade is calculated as the sum of points for the semester and final evaluations. A student is not admitted to the final evaluation in the form of an exam if he scored less than 36 points during the semester.
