Know: Petrographic provinces of Ukraine and local rock associations Geostructural position, conditions of occurrence, age and origin of local rock associations Chemical composition, petrographic features and mineral resource potential of local rock associations Be able: To diagnose igneous and metamorphic rocks from the territory of Ukraine, to make their petrographic description To determine the affiliation of the studied rock to the petrographic provinces of Ukraine and local rock associations
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Mastering the methods of petrographic research of rocks
Course content
The territory of Ukraine is characterized by a significant distribution of rocks of igneous and metamorphic origin. Within defined petrographic provinces, they form local rock associations that appear under the names of series and complexes in current stratigraphic and geochronological schemes. The study discipline "Petrography of Ukraine" provides theoretical knowledge about such rock associations, their geostructural position, conditions of occurrence, age, origin, material composition, petrographic features and mineral resource potential. Laboratory classes improve the skills of diagnosis and petrographic description of rocks, providing practical experience in determining their affiliation to the petrographic provinces of Ukraine and local rock associations. The purpose of the discipline is to provide theoretical knowledge about the regional petrography of Ukraine, to improve the skills of diagnosis and petrographic description of rocks.

The final grade is given based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester, as a sum of points for systematic work during the semester and for credit. A student is not admitted to the final evaluation in the form of credit if he scored less than 40 points during the semester.
