Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of the courses "Mineralogy with the basics of crystallography", "Basics of geochemistry", "Analytical geochemistry". 2. Possession of basic knowledge in the field of physics and chemistry.
Course content
The course provides students with knowledge about the composition, principle of operation and main metrological characteristics of energydispersive X-ray spectrometers, practical methods of their determination. Methods of X-ray spectral fluorescence determination of the content of impurity elements in rock samples and estimation of errors. Basics and equipment of the ele The aim of the discipline is to acquaint students with modern X-ray spectral methods of studying the composition of matter, which are used in conducting geochemical and mineralogical-geochemical research. The main focus is on practical skills in working with modern X-ray spectral equipment and evaluating the quality of the results obtained.ctron-probe method of researching the chemical composition of a mineral substance.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, laboratory classes, consultations, independent student work
Assessment methods and criteria
1. Semester assessment: Six laboratory works - max 10 points (min 6 points) for each. For all laboratory work, a student can receive max 60 points (min 36 points) 2. Final assessment in the form of a written and oral exam: max 40 points (min 24 points) Final assessment in the form of an exam is mandatory. The results of students' educational activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale. The overall grade is assigned based on the results of the student's work during the 5th (30 points) and 6th (30 points) semesters and the final assessment, as the sum (simple or weighted) of the points for systematic work during the 2nd semesters and the points obtained as a result of the final evaluation in the form of an exam. A student is not admitted to the exam if he scored less than 36 points during the 5th and 6th semesters.
