Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of the basics of structural, historical, petroleum geology, petrology and geophysics
Course content
The most important properties of hydrocarbons and their conditions of localization in the crust are analyzed. Methods of prospecting and exploration of oil and gas are studied. The main focus is on the seismic survey, drilling exploration wells and well-logging. The stages of oil and gas prospecting and exploration, peculiarities of search and exploration depending on the phase of hydrocarbons and type of traps, the main methods of calculating their reserves, as well as methods for evaluating of the economic efficiency of exploration are considered. Describes the regional and prospecting stages of the search culminating in the discovery of the field. The exploration stage which involves hydrocarbon volumetric, economic and rick assessment is described. Further planning of the industrial development of the field is accompanied by a mandatory assessment of the impact of the hydrocarbon production process on the environment

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, practical classes, independent work of students
Assessment methods and criteria
The control is carried out according to the modular rating system and includes: practical work (where students must demonstrate the quality of acquired knowledge and solve problems using the methods and tools outlined by the teacher), independent practical work (where students must demonstrate the quality of acquired knowledge and solve problems without limiting tools and techniques for solving the problem) and conducting 2 written modular tests. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written and oral exam.
