Learning outcomes
Analyzing - processes of sediment accumulation in final drainage basins, sediment composition, rate of sediment accumulation, peculiarities of distribution in different facies zones; Reconstructing - conditions of sediment accumulation based on structural-textural features and mineral composition of rock formations. Constructing - geological sections through oil and gas-bearing regions indicating the complex of stratigraphic horizons that constitute the sedimentary cover. Predicting - presence of reservoir and cap rocks based on the stratigraphic section of the region.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of courses in general, historical, and structural geology, fundamentals of mineralogy and petrography (lithology). Proficiency in reading geological maps and sections
Course content
Introduction of students to the theory of sedimentogenesis, describing the formation of sediment material, processes of sediment transport and accumulation in various natural-landscape basins under different facies conditions, processes of sediment transformation into rock formations considering their potential oil and gas-bearing capacity, and acquaintance with rock stratigraphic complexes that constitute the sedimentary cover of oil and gas basins in Ukraine.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
lectures, seminars, practical classes, independent study.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final semester assessment in the 5th semester (KI) is calculated on a 100-point scale, based on the student's performance throughout the semester, as the sum of points for systematic work during the semester (maximum 80 points, threshold – 48 points) and the grade obtained by the student during the examination (maximum – 20 points, threshold – 12 points). A student is not allowed to take the exam if they have earned less than 48 points during the semester.
