Form of study
Distance form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of physical and political map of the world, basics of geochemistry, lithology, structural geology and geological mapping, historical and regional geology, as well as basics of petroleum geology and geophysical research methods
Course content
The geology of oil and gas provinces is considered, their geological and structural position, stratigraphy, tectonics, features of sedimentary basins: oil and gas source rocks, regional reservoirs and seals, types of traps, pools and fields. The general economic characteristics, typical fields and prospects of further development of oil and gas production in different regions of the world are given. It is shown that the largest hydrocarbon resources are concentrated in the sedimentary rocks of the platform areas. These materials allow to understand the basic regional patterns of hydrocarbon accumulation in order to consciously approach the choice of model fields and using the method of analogies for predicting of oil and gas potential

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, practical classes, independent work of students
Assessment methods and criteria
The control is carried out according to the modular rating system and includes: practical work (where students must demonstrate the quality of acquired knowledge and solve problems using the methods and tools outlined by the teacher), independent practical work (where students must demonstrate the quality of acquired knowledge and solve problems without limiting tools and techniques for solving the problem) and conducting 2 written modular tests. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written and oral exam
