Learning outcomes
To know: The essence and stages of the development of applied economic and social geography; key concepts of applied socio-economic research in geography; methods of applied research in economic and social geography; principles and peculiarities of their application in various areas of applied research; approaches to territorial planning and the creation of territorial planning schemes in Ukraine; methodology for conducting expertise of regional development programs and projects, etc.
To be able to: Define and justify the necessity of conducting applied research on the economic and social development of Ukraine; evaluate the status of the use of natural resource potential, the level of anthropogenic load, and environmental protection in Ukraine; create projects of territorial planning schemes for regions of Ukraine; develop general plans for settlements; conduct expertise of programs and projects in the field of regional governance, etc.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. to know the theoretical foundations of human geography, territorial management and planning, and human-geographical forecasting.
2. To be able to evaluate and analyze current trends in applied research in economic and social geography, and assess the consequences of applied research tasks for the social and economic development of territories.
3. To have basic skills in human-geographical forecasting and planning, methods of human-geographical research, and the methodology for the integrated assessment of the natural-resource and economic potential of a territory.
Course content
The course is dedicated to studying the applied aspects of economic and social geography, its essence, and its place within the system of sciences; the main concepts and modern trends in applied research in economic and social geography; the tasks and principles of conducting applied research in economic and social geography; current trends and issues in applied research in Ukraine. It highlights the applied aspects of natural resource management in Ukraine, the stages and mechanisms of territorial planning, the study of dynamics in key indicators of economic and social development in Ukrainian regions, and the specifics of developing and conducting expert evaluations of programs and projects in the field of regional governance in Ukraine under current conditions. This discipline aims to demonstrate the objectivity and necessity of conducting applied research by economic geographers to prevent the destructive exploitation of the territorial resource potential, prevent harmful processes in the economic and social development of regions in Ukraine, and justify ways to harmonize the interaction between society and nature.
