Learning outcomes
To know: concepts of regional development management; the methodology of human-geographical research on metropolitan region development; methods for planning the optimal territorial organization of a metropolitan region; the level of development of resource potential, geodemographic and economic structures, and the humanitarian sphere of the metropolitan region; environmental issues and the ecological network of the metropolitan region; approaches to geostrategic and geospatial planning of metropolitan region development.
To be able to: apply methods for collecting primary data and selecting materials for geoplanning and geostrategic development of a metropolitan region; develop proposals for the development directions of the Kyiv metropolitan region; assess the economic and social efficiency of development within the Kyiv metropolitan region.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful completion of the courses Human Geography, Regional Planning, and Human-Geographical Modelling.
2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of human geography, as well as the theories and concepts of spatial development of society.
3. Possession of basic skills in the analysis of spatial development and its strategic planning.
Course content
The course aims to explore the features of the structure and development of the Capital Region, strategic planning and territorial development, and the socio-geographical foundations; the concepts and methodology of regional development management, territorial analysis, and the territorial organization of society. It covers the factors and resource base for the development of the Capital Region, differences in human potential, the structure of the economic complex, the humanitarian sphere, residential construction development, ecological networks, and the territorial organization of tourism and recreation within the region. The course explains the model of market-based territorial formations in an industrial-agricultural region with an urban agglomeration as the country’s capital; socio-geographical approaches to strategic planning and territorial organization at various hierarchical levels in the Capital Region.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, practical session, presentation, discussion, problem-solving of specific tasks and situations, independent work
Assessment methods and criteria
Classes are conducted in the form of lectures and practical sessions. The course concludes with a final examination.
Throughout the semester, after completing relevant topics, thematic written control assignments with open-ended questions are conducted. To assess the level of learning outcomes, students present and defend the practical tasks they have completed.
