Learning outcomes
To develop in students the skills of critical analysis to explain socio-political phenomena and processes, their representation in the media, everyday consciousness and in theoretical generalizations with an emphasis on modern sociological and political knowledge, to develop knowledge about the peculiarities of the functioning and development of modern social and political systems, their structural elements and social consequences, social and political problems of modern society.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) Before starting this course, students should have knowledge of the basics of state and law, which would provide an idea of ​​the formation and development of society and its institutions. 2) Be able to collect and interpret information on socio-political processes, apply basic concepts in a critical understanding of events taking place in the modern world political process. 3) Possess elementary skills of scientific research in searching, critical selection and systematization of information of both an applied and theoretical nature.
Course content
The course "Socio-Political Studies" is aimed at highlighting and explaining the main provisions, the content of which reflects the modern achievements of world and domestic humanitarian knowledge in all the diversity of scientific directions. It reveals the principles and patterns of the functioning and development of the socio-political system as a whole, and its individual institutions, in particular: the state as a fundamental institution of the political system, public organizations and political parties (with an explanation of their ideological foundations). The essence of the phenomenon of power and the methods and limits of its implementation are explained in detail. The historical and current modern features of the transformation of political regimes are revealed and a comparative analysis of the characteristics of democratic and undemocratic regimes is carried out. The phenomenon of social and political conflicts and their specific forms and manifestations are revealed. The essence of the institution of elections and the stages and specifics of the course of election campaigns are determined, the mechanisms of electoral engineering, technologies for forming a candidate's image and the features of the functioning of the political market are revealed. The main trends in the development of modern world politics and the features of the domestic political process are revealed.

Assessment methods and criteria
Classes are held in the form of lectures and seminars. The discipline ends with a test. Semester assessment: the number of points that a student receives during the semester is the sum of the points that were obtained when evaluating the work based on the results of oral reports, participation in discussions, writing essays, analytical research, presentation of independent research, and test work. Assessment organization: Work in seminar classes is assessed based on performance, in accordance with the schedule of seminar classes. The essay involves understanding the role of society and politics in human life (based on materials from fiction or journalistic literature/cinema. Analytical research involves comparing the political systems of two selected countries. The presentation of independent research is carried out on the basis of developing a draft program of one's own political party.
