Learning outcomes
Know: the history of design, the development of design thinking; design institutions that were pioneers, the specifics of their activities; the meaning of the terms "form", "form formation", "composition", "small architectural form", "design code". Know the essence of the influence of the natural landscape on the construction of an architectural composition; features of the formation of the architectural composition of the city, etc. Be able to: distinguish between modern art trends, types of modern design, historical, modern and ethnic interior styles, etc.; develop a city logo, analyze the planning and architectural structure of the city, etc.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful completion of the courses "Introduction to Urban Studies", "Urban Tourism", "World Geography: Cities and Regions", "Landscape Ecology", "Methods of Urban Research", "Introduction to Urban Planning"; 2) proficiency in working with cartographic sources, computer programs MS Word, MS Excel, software for using the Internet, and performing simple mathematical calculations.
Course content
Students study the basics of design, its basic concepts; the theoretical concepts of outstanding design practitioners of the late 19th and early 20th centuries are examined; the influence of the first design institutions on the further development of design, the connection between art and modern design, the variety of modern design, the influence of color on humans, types of small architectural forms that are integral elements of the urban environment, etc. are studied.

Assessment methods and criteria
The course includes 2 content parts. Classes are held in the form of lectures and practical classes. The discipline ends with a test. Semester assessment: the number of points that a student receives during the semester is the sum of the points that were obtained when evaluating work in practical classes and performing thematic tests. Organization of assessment: Work in practical classes is assessed by performance, in accordance with the schedule of practical classes. Thematic tests are carried out in the form of a test.
