Learning outcomes
Know: the system of urban research methods; the essence and features of the application of field research methods, comparative geographical method, statistical method, expert methods; SWOT, PESTLE, ABC analysis of cities, etc. Be able to: describe and compare various research objects; form an array of statistical data and systematize them; build statistical graphs using specialized computer programs; calculate indices, averages, variation indicators, and dynamic series using specialized computer programs; conduct surveys and questionnaires; interpret the results and formulate research conclusions, etc.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful completion of the courses “Fundamentals of Human Geography”, “World Geography: Cities and Regions”, “Introduction to Urban Studies”. 2) knowledge of the theoretical foundations of social geography, location of production, population settlement, general principles of conducting scientific research. 3) mastery of skills in working with cartographic sources, computer programs MS Word, MS Excel, software for using the Internet, conducting simple mathematical calculations
Course content
The basics of scientific ideas about the methods and methodology of urban research are presented, the possibilities of using general scientific, interdisciplinary and special methods in solving problems of varying complexity. Regarding the basic research methods - field, descriptive, comparative, statistical, sample, expert methods - the conditions and rules of correct application, the algorithm of actions and the features of interpreting the results obtained are presented. One of the most important goals is to develop in students the skills to independently choose one or another research method depending on the nature and properties of the object and the research tasks set.

Assessment methods and criteria
The course includes 3 content parts. Classes are held in the form of lectures and practical work. The discipline ends with an exam. Semester assessment: the number of points that a student receives during the semester is the sum of the points that were received when evaluating work in practical classes and performing thematic tests. Organization of assessment: Work in practical classes is assessed by performance, in accordance with the schedule of practical classes. Thematic tests are carried out in the form of a test
