Learning outcomes
Acquisition of the ability to apply knowledge in practical situations in the process of "reading" a map in field conditions, orientation in the terrain, analysis of spatial and temporal parameters of the organization of nature, population and economy and the relationships between them while consolidating in practice theoretical knowledge and skills of scientific work and urban research methods, as well as in the process of familiarization with the features of the functioning of local government bodies and local self-government; knowledge and understanding of the subject area and understanding of professional activity when conducting research on socio-geographic and natural-geographic phenomena and processes; skills to ensure safe activities in field conditions; ability to collect, register and analyze data using appropriate methods and technological and software tools in field conditions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastery of the disciplines: "Human geography", "Introduction to urban studies", "Natural geography", "Historical geography", "Urban tourism", "World geography: cities", "Cartography with the basics of topography". 2. Be able to quantitatively and qualitatively analyze the features of natural, social-geographical and urban processes.
Course content
This training practice is dedicated to the practical consolidation of skills and abilities in assessing the economic and social development of cities and communities, acquiring skills in applying methods of field urban research; acquiring skills in “reading” maps, orienting in the terrain, acquiring skills in conducting field observations and describing the information obtained using techniques and methods of field determination and assessment of parameters of natural complexes and their components; analyzing the city as a complex urbanized system; acquiring competencies in cooperation and working in a group, resolving disagreements and conflicts; mastering the skills of making a geographical description and characterization, generalizing and formulating conclusions, as well as drawing up a report and illustrating it. Training practice on the basics of field urban research includes three content parts, the first takes place in the city of Kyiv, the second and third - in the city of Kaniv, Cherkasy region on the basis of the Kaniv Nature Reserve.

Assessment methods and criteria
Forms and methods of control. During the training practice, the teacher directly directs and controls the student's work both during field research and during the office processing of materials and the performance of individual tasks. Summing up the results of the practice. After checking the submitted report for each type of practice separately, students defend it. At the same time, they must demonstrate certain applied knowledge in separate content parts. After that, the teacher gives each student a grade for the practice. Reports for individual types of practices are transferred to the relevant departments. Organization of assessment: Control over the results of the practice is carried out by the head of a separate type of practice based on the results of the report assessment and oral interview, taking into account: assessment of the level of practice defense, level of preparation and quality of reporting materials; presentation of the report on the completion of the practice.
