Learning outcomes
To familiarize students with the essence and theoretical foundations of creating geographic maps (including topographic maps and plans) as symbolic models of reality; to teach them how to correctly apply the methodological tools for using general geographic and thematic maps to solve scientific and practical tasks; to develop the ability to collect, register, and analyze various types of data using observation, measurement methods, etc., as well as technological and software products in field and office conditions; to form skills in applying a systematic approach when studying the basic theoretical and practical concepts of the course.

The curriculum of the course consists of the following thematic sections: Part 1: The Map as a Model of Reality. Part 2: Design, Creation, and Use of Maps.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Assessment methods and criteria
The course consists of two thematic parts. Classes are conducted in the form of lectures and practical sessions. The course concludes with a credit. Semester evaluation: The number of points a student receives during the semester is the sum of points earned through the evaluation of their work in practical sessions, independent work, and control tasks. Evaluation organization: Work during practical sessions is assessed at the end of each session, according to the schedule of practical classes. The results of learning, provided the material is mastered at an adequate level, are evaluated as follows: Practical work: minimum score 10, maximum score 20; Control tasks: 20-30 points; Independent work: 5-10 points.
